Graphic Plugs asked for a special edition: a sculptural piece rather than another run of the catalogue. One object that had to stand on its own — something to hang and look at, not something to put in a display case.
A fleur-de-lis built out of skulls, so the silhouette lands first and the detail arrives afterwards. It was sculpted digitally in ZBrush, skull by skull, with the Graphic Plugs logo carved into the back, and checked as a render from every side before anything was printed. Then printed in translucent resin and finished by hand, and that choice is what the whole piece rests on: light goes through the body instead of stopping at the surface.
Made in two colourways, red and green. On a wall it throws its own shadow and reads as a silhouette; under a skylight the resin lights from the inside and the skulls within the flower come forward. It is the same object doing two different things depending on where it is hung.
